Marsali Hancock

Marsali Hancock started playing the violin when she was four years old and has loved playing ever since. She graduated from BYU with a violin performance degree. She was concertmaster of the Mormon Youth Symphony and a member of the Orchestra at Temple Square, Lexington Philharmonic, Bach Ensemble in Lexington, Kentucky, concertmaster of the Washington DC Temple Orchestra, and a freelance performing and recording artist. Marsali loves teaching both very young children and older adults. She has been teaching for over 30 years. Her lessons include a solid technical foundation combined with music literacy. Her goal is to empower every student with the skills needed to enjoy music and play violin/viola lifelong. Marsali’s violin and music teaching training includes violin/viola teacher training at Indiana University and Suzuki training from the International Music Teacher Exchange. Her early childhood music literacy training includes Let’s Play Music and Sound Beginnings teacher certificates. Marsali serves as a founding board member of the Cache Valley Youth Orchestra. In 1998, she co-founded the Mountain West String Academy in Cache Valley and was adjunct faculty at Utah State. While living in the Washington DC area, she was a founding board member of the Washington DC Temple Orchestra. Before returning to Cache Valley in 2020, Marsali was a Stanford University Distinguished Visiting Scholar, recognized for her leadership roles in cyber safety, security, and ethics.

Marsali is the mother of six children and grandmother of seven. She lives on her family farm in Wellsville Utah where she loves to teach, garden, cook, travel, read, and make music with friends.
