Owen Sidwell
Drum Teacher

I grew up in a very musical family, and have been playing the drums and other various instruments for over 15 years. Throughout my school years I was constantly involved in as many percussion classes, concert bands, marching bands, and jazz bands that I could fit in my schedule. Nowadays I equally fill my time playing in way too many local bands around Utah, drumming for musical theater productions, and recording in my home studio! When it comes to music I have a particular fondness for funk, rock, jazz fusion, and progressive rock, among other genres. Fun fact: The earliest known crafted drums were made around 6000 BCE! Drumming is one of humanity’s oldest time-honored traditions, and there's a good reason for that! Drumming has been proven to reduce stress and anxiety, it increases cognitive function, and is a great way to increase social connection! As one of my old drum teachers used to tell me, “There’s nothing more fun than being really good at something.” The reward for all the hard work, determination, and practice it takes to “get good” at the drums (or anything else) is so phenomenally worth it, and it’s one of my priorities to help my students recognize that. My goal as a teacher is to cater to my students. If you have a specific direction or goal in mind, I can help you achieve that! If you don’t, I can help you find one! I teach all my students the foundations for drumming so that you can grow in any direction you choose. The world of drumming is big and beautiful, and the more time we spend drumming the more joy and satisfaction we get out of it. And that’s the point right? I teach students ages 8 and up, and specialize in technique, improvisation, rudimental drumming, playing in a band, and most popular drumming styles.
